3. India standards: CPCB norms – < 50 mg/Nm³ for old plants, < 30 mg/Nm³ for new

4. USA standards: EPA Boiler MACT – case-by-case but very strict for hazardous pollutants

Characteristics of Boiler Flue Gas Dust


Dust generated from boiler flue gas is not ordinary dust. It has several challenging characteristics that make filtration difficult:

1. High temperature: Flue gas temperatures typically range from 120°C to 260°C, depending on the boiler type and fuel used. Ordinary filter bags will quickly fail under such heat.

2. Moisture and acid gases: Boiler flue gas often contains water vapor, sulfur oxides (SO₂, SO₃), and hydrogen chloride (HCl). When mixed, these form acidic compounds that corrode bag materials.

3. Fine and sticky dust: The dust particles are usually very fine (sub-micron in many cases) and can be sticky, especially when unburned carbon or alkaline minerals are present. This leads to clogging and difficult cleaning.

4. Abrasive nature: Some dust, especially from coal or biomass, contains hard particles that gradually wear down filter fibers.

5. Variable composition: Depending on fuel type (coal, biomass, gas, or industrial waste), the dust can change in both volume and chemical composition, requiring adaptable filtration solutions.

3. P84 (Polyimide): High-temperature resistance (up to 260°C) with superior dust cake release.

4. PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene): The best choice for high temperatures (up to 260°C) and aggressive acidic conditions. Highly durable.

5. Fiberglass: Suitable for very high temperatures (up to 280°C) but requires careful handling.
